We have two Nursery sessions at George Tomlinson;
Robins Class – 8.45am – 11.45am
Foxes Class – 12.30pm – 3.30pm
We aspire to provide all children with a happy and exciting start to their school life by providing a rich, stimulating learning environment with exciting, explorative learning opportunities. We celebrate success and develop the self esteem, independence and resilience of all children. We look forward to working with all parents and carers throughout the year, in order to enable each child to have a successful and rewarding start to their school career.
The EYFS Curriculum
There are 7 areas of learning with
3 prime areas which build the capacity to learn
Communication and Language
Physical Development and Personal,
Social and Emotional Development.
The prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 Specific areas;
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and design.
In Nursery we focus on the Prime areas, but as our provision enables children to learn holistically, children will start to incorporate all areas of learning whilst they engage in open ended activities they have chosen.
Children learn by playing and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors. The curriculum trouh play, and child-initiated activities. Children’s brains are most active whilst they are engaged in activities they have chosen for themselves. Staff observe children whilst they are highly involved and plan ‘in the moment‘ how best to move them on.
We have special focus weeks for every child each term. Parents and carers are notified on the Friday before, and a form goes home for them to record anything significant happening at home. During the week the nursery staff record significant interactions and learning that have taken place for your child. This is used, along side your child’s profile for teachers and parents to discuss progress and targets, during a focus week meeting.
