We teach maths through the Inspire Maths scheme which is derived from Singapore maths, the most successful maths system in the world. We teach phonics through the highly successful Read, Write Inc scheme and teach Philosophy 4 Children in all year groups from Reception to year 6. We use a systematic teaching approach for reading in KS2 called Destination Reader and this enables children to read with greater understanding, independence and above all enjoy reading more. We have a huge focus on Reading at George Tom and this will be supported by the building of our new inspirational library space during the summer term! For our reading and writing curriculum we use high quality, engaging texts.
Sport at GT is outstanding, led by two sports coaches who run a plethora of sports clubs as well as manage the GTTV Sports channel on YouTube, take children from all year groups to regular competitions and take enormous pride at our reputation in the borough for sporting achievement. Music is valued at GT and we have a specialist music teacher who works with us as well as a specialist singing teacher. We teach French to all year groups from Reception.
We believe that children learn best when they are happy and cared for, which is why we support their learning with two pastoral support roles and will be offering a counselling service from September delivered by Place2Be.
We want our parent community to feel part of our school and invite them in every half term for open evenings, run weekly workshops on a range of topics, hold many community events and have an active PTFA. There is a special feeling about our school and it can be best shared with you through a visit!
To arrange a visit please contact Linda Parr our Office Manager who will arrange this with you on 020 8539 3577.
As we are unable to show you around the school because of COVID, we have put together a video. Hope this helps.
