Welcome

Welcome to the George Tomlinson Primary School website! I hope that you find the information you require and more by looking at our webpage. However, no website can truly demonstrate the feel of a school and I’d recommend you come and visit us for a walk around!

George Tomlinson Primary is a three form entry community school set in the heart of Leytonstone, a stone’s throw away from the tube and with easy access into the heart of London on the central line.

At George Tomlinson we believe that all children deserve outstanding quality first teaching that is supported by excellent curricular opportunities and extended services that nurture and engage children.

We want to inspire brilliance in a stable and safe environment through creative practice. We want our pupils to feel that when it comes to aspirations the sky is the limit and to prepare them fully for life at secondary school and beyond.

Teachers & support staff

Are you a passionate and creative teacher who will accept nothing less than the best for children? Do you want to inspire others and reach your potential? At George Tom we believe in supporting staff to continue learning and to reach their potential. Every staff member is valued and made to feel part of the team.

Innovative and Creative Curriculum

Innovative and Creative Curriculum

Our curriculum was revised entirely in 2016 and is personalised to our pupils using modern and effective techniques. We use Inspire Maths (the Singapore Maths approach), Destination Reader, Read, Write Inc Phonics and Philosophy 4 Children along with Project Based Learning from Years 2-6 which teaches the life-skills of collaboration, research and presentation.
Sport

Sport

Our two Sports Coaches deliver outstanding sport provision across the school, run a huge range of inclusive clubs and sporting competitions as well as maintain their Sports channel on YouTube ‘GTTV’ with weekly reports from our sports ambassadors. We hold an annual hike up Mount Snowdon and working towards our Sainsbury’s Platinum Award this year!
Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

We highly prize pastoral support for our pupils and their well-being is of paramount importance to us. We are delighted to provide the counselling service Place2Be for children and their families who need a little extra support. They offer 1:1 counselling as well as a drop-in service open to all pupils. We also have a Learning Mentor who works with children across the school to develop their learning, self-confidence, resolve issues within friendship groups and strengthen their growth mind-set. We have a sensory room and use our outdoor Edible Playground, amongst other things, as a breakout space.
Growth Mind-set and Mindfulness

Growth Mind-set and Mindfulness

Children with a growth mind-set believe intelligence can be developed, they are motivated to learn, engaged in their subjects and are not afraid to try things out and learn through their mistakes with effort and persistence. We teach all children mindfulness techniques to help stay calm and focused, improve their attention and make better choices. In short, to improve their cognitive function and emotional regulation!
SEND Provision

SEND Provision

We offer excellent provision and support for our all children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We have a Sensory Room which is also used as a break out space if required and staff are given regular training on how to best support our SEND children. Our SENDCo works closely with families of SEND children to ensure they make excellent progress and are supported in the best way to reach their potential. We are a fully inclusive school and want all our pupils to reach their potential, regardless of starting point.
Library

Library

Our Fairy Tale library is a magical place for all children to read and relax, sit on a toadstool or the indoor grass and fall into the magical world of books! We run a daily project called ‘Catch me Reading’ in our library where children can hear a teacher read to them from 12-1230. Children collect stamps for each time they attend and then win a free book! We have librarians and Reading Prefects who also read to their peers during lunchtimes. We have invested heavily in quality texts for our library and book corners across the school.
Music

Music

At GT we follow the Charanga music programme to teach the music curriculum. Children can chose to learn the violin, ukulele, guitar or piano in school with our music tutors. Year 3 are also taught the recorder as a class. We have a school choir club who recently performed at the Yong Voices concert at the O2 in London. We will also be providing singing lessons from Summer 1.
Pupil Voice

Pupil Voice

We offer various opportunities for our children to voice their opinions and ideas, excel and take on responsibilities. We have prefects, playground pals, peer mentors, sports ambassadors, sports prefects, reading ambassadors, reading prefects and a highly active school council. We are working towards our UN Rights Respecting Award and our school council and Art Council make their voices heard!

Our active PTFA run various wonderful community get-togethers and fundraisers throughout the year. We also have nine different nationality coffee mornings which run for parents to make connections with one another and get involved in school life. We also offer a free English lesson class each week for parents which is well-attended as well as free adult courses such as First Aid and Tai Chi. Our free Baby & Toddler group from 915 am every Wednesday is a great way for parents to meet one another.

We offer full-time places for 3 and 4 year olds as well as places for eligible 2 year olds. We also have spaces at our Nursery and Reception Breakfast and After School Clubs.

Project Based Learning in Y4-Mayan Farmers Market. A massive thank you to our Y4 teachers too who coached, guided and supported the pupils to achieve their goal! We are so lucky at GT to have such dedicated and inspiring staff! Well done Ms Shakes, Ms Tamblyn and Mr Colebrook!
Y4’s Mayan Farmer’s market was INCREDIBLE!! This was the culmination of all their hard work over the past term in Project Based Learning. The children came up with the ideas themselves and marketed the event, got allocated their roles and prepped all the food, painted the artwork and made jewellery, wrote reports and so much more! The audience were blown away and we are extremely proud of you all! #mayanfarmersmarket #projectbasedlearning #creative #ambitious #happy #diverse #year4 #inspiring

The cookery room is now officially......OPEN! Yes we need to paint the walls but we have some smashing resources in there and can’t wait to see our pupils learning how to cook, gaining an understanding of nutrition and having fun in there! Thank you to the pupils who cooked and served the food so brilliantly! And to Mr Colebrook and Ms Ewa for their hard work on this! #inspiring #creative #happy #diverse #ambitious #broadandbalancedcurriculum #proudtobegt #cookeryroom

Ms Chambers led an assembly today to kick off Children’s Mental Health Week. Incredibly important to talk about mental health, erase the stigma and teach our pupils to seek help when needed. A key focus in our school and always will be #beingourselves #place2be #place2talk #place2think #childrensmentalhealthweek
